Friday Five 5-12-2017

05.12.2017 by Tana Henry //

Recently, I played with the Hasting Symphony for 3 schools, in 3 different towns, for over 1,000 kids. Exposing children to the wonders of orchestras was so fun and inspiring!

This is the twenty-eighth installment in my weekly series, called the Friday Five. In this series, I’ll tell you about five random things that I love, whether they be books, travel, music, movies…or whatever. So without further ado, 5-12-2017’s Friday Five!

1–Explore Newt’s case. Anyone else a fan of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them? Check out this 360 degree tool to explore the inside of Newt’s case. So neat!

2–Whispering Baby Whales. Did you know that baby humpback whales whisper to their mothers while swimming? I didn’t until I read this article. And there’s even a sound clip that you can listen to for yourself.

3–All the Light We Cannot See Book Review. Sierra is a friend of mine, in the blogosphere and in real life. She wrote a fantastic review of Doerr’s book, which our book club is reading currently. I recommend subscribing to A Simple Taste for Reading, so that you don’t miss any of her posts.

4–Coping with and Avoiding Motion Sickness. SDI/TDI, the agency that certified Mike and I as scuba divers, put out this blog post with some great tips for dealing with motion sickness. For someone like me, who occasionally suffers from it, it was helpful.

5–Baking Hacks. I love to bake. And sometimes baking doesn’t go exactly as planned. I couldn’t stop watching this video, since all of the hacks were things that I’d never thought to do. Hope you’re also inspired to do a bit of baking…or salvage your baking misadventures. 😉

Friday Five 2-17-2017

02.17.2017 by Tana Henry //

This is the twenty-fourth installment in my weekly series, called the Friday Five. In this series, I’ll tell you about five random things that I love, whether they be books, travel, music, movies…or whatever. So without further ado, 2-17-2017’s Friday Five!

1–Gilmore Girls Revival. I was home sick two days in a row this month, and just watched a whole bunch of Gilmore Girls on Netflix. I finished Season 7 of the old series, and then watched the entirety of the revival series. I’ve found myself talking with other people about it a few times since then. And although it’s a little different from the old show, I still adored it.

2–Pink Floyd. I’ve been listening to the Pink Floyd station and albums on Amazon Music lately (You can even Try Amazon Music Unlimited 30-Day Free Trial). Although I’ve heard many of their songs on the radio, this was probably the first time that I’d listened to a significant amount of their music, or whole albums. Their music is weird and wonderful.

3–Shipwrecks. Mike likes to dive shipwrecks, any shipwrecks no matter the water temperature. I like the ones that are in shallow, warm water; and even then I’m perfectly content to stay outside of them. But this week I stumbled across two different posts on shipwrecks and shipwreck diving.  The first is from TDI/SDI and deals with the rules of shipwrecks. The second is from Atlas Obscura is about a Swedish shipwreck recently discovered.

4–Firehouse Subs. A new restaurant, Firehouse Subs opened in Kearney. Mike and I went for dinner last Friday night before our movie (Lego Batman, which is really funny by the way). It was a soft opening to help train the new staff, so we ended up getting out dinners for free. The food was really good, so we’ll definitely go back. But how cool is free food?!

5–Jonathan Bird’s Blue World. Mike turned me on to this YouTube channel, and I love it. This guy dives in some really cool destinations; and they catch some really great video. Whether you’re a diver or not, it’s gorgeous video.

Friday Five 12-16-2016

12.16.2016 by Tana Henry //

This is the twenty-first installment in my weekly series, called the Friday Five. In this series, I’ll tell you about five random things that I love, whether they be books, travel, music, movies…or whatever. So without further ado, 12-16-2016’s Friday Five!

1–The Gilmore Girls. I’ve been working my way through all of the seasons of The Gilmore Girls on Netflix. I haven’t yet watched the new movie, so no spoilers! So as a fellow bookworm, I loved Modern Mrs. Darcy’s post titled Gilmore Girls: A Series in Books.

2–SDI’s hilarious guide to throwing up underwater. In addition to being pretty funny, it’s also informative. It’s worth a read…enough said.

3–Postsecret. So, people send their secrets to this guy on postcards, and every Sunday he posts some of them on the internet. I love this site, and don’t know why I didn’t think to post about it before. If you’ve never read it, I’d suggest checking it out.

4–SDI/TDI/ERDI’s Story. I make it no secret that I’m an SDI scuba diver. Mike has training with both SDI (Scuba Diving International) and TDI (Technical Diving International). After diving with shops and folks trained in a variety of curricula, we really do believe their training to be superior. This short video about the history of the company was really interesting.

5–10 Crucial Decisions That Reshaped America. A lengthy but well thought out essay on the small decisions in the various campaigns that lead to the Trump victory. This is a very good read, no matter your position on the political spectrum.

My name is Tana, and I am an attorney in South-Central Nebraska. I'm married to a great guy, named Mike, and have a dog named Emmy and a cat named Scout. I read as much as possible, and travel any chance I get. Luggage and Literature chronicles both. I hope you enjoy looking around! Please leave me a comment and tell me what you think.
