Friday Five 9-30-2016

09.30.2016 by Tana Henry //

Caleb Hawley
Caleb Hawley and his band at Rehmsworld Concerts.

This is the seventeenth installment in my weekly series, called the Friday Five. In this series, I’ll tell you about five random things that I love, whether they be books, travel, music, movies…or whatever. So without further ado, 9-30-2016’s Friday Five!

1–Harry Potter. It’s no secret that I LOVE Harry Potter. So when I stumbled across this video over at Atlas Obscura, I couldn’t resist posting it here. Hope you enjoy it too.

2–Beethoven Jokes. I saw this one on Facebook lately, and could not stop laughing. Mike thought I was nuts, but then he’s not an orchestra dork (orch-dork! Haha!) like me. If you’re a musician you’ll probably enjoy it too. 🙂

3–Travel Blog Success. After reading about this course/site for months on several different blogs, I finally bit the bullet and signed up. So far, I’m impressed. If you’d like to check it out, they’re running a fall sale, so now is a great time.

4–Fall Books. I’ve seen a couple of lists of great books to read this fall. You can find a couple of them here and here if you’re looking for your next book.

5–Caleb Hawley. I was able to go to a Rehmsworld concert this past week where Caleb Hawley and his band played an awesome show! If you’re looking for some new music, I’d recommend that you check out any of his albums (Side 1, Side 2, or Steps, or even visit his YouTube channel. He puts out fantastic videos, so subscribing is a great way to hear what he’s been working on. And I’ll be uploading some video to my YouTube channel this weekend that I shot at the concert, in case you want to check that out as well.

Friday Five 6-24-2016

06.24.2016 by Tana Henry //

Friday 5This is the ninth installment in my new weekly series, called the Friday Five. In this series, I’ll tell you about five random things that I love, whether they be books, travel, music, movies…or whatever. So without further ado, 6-24-2016’s Friday Five!

1–Revisionist History. Malcolm Gladwell launched a podcast called Revisionist History. As with everything else that he’s put out, I love it! I’ve listened to both of the episodes, plus the introduction, and have enjoyed them both. You can check it out here, or on whatever app you use to listen to podcasts (I like podbean).

2–Fitness Walking. So it’s probably not a secret to those who know me very well, but I’ve struggled with my weight for my whole life. I’ve done Weight Watchers several times, done Curves, read books, and tried to go it my own way. It has been less than successful, as people can probably tell from my increasing size over time. Being overweight is incredibly painful to the psyche, especially of someone like me, who is used to being in control, and making things happen or bend to my will. Ultimately, I’ve been successful at continuing to track my calories using the MyFitnessPal app, which at least makes sure that I’m at least mindful of what I’m eating (even if I don’t always reduce my portion sizes, make good choices, or skip snacks). What I’ve struggled with the most is making exercise not suck (and I honestly really hate exercising), so that I’ll actually do it, and continue to do it. I like going for walks, so I’m hopeful that the tips from this post might get me moving a bit more, which in turn will help me to lose some of the pounds.

3–Caleb Hawley. I saw Caleb Hawley at one of the Rehmsworld concerts, and loved him. His music is just downright fun. He put out a new video on youtube, a song called Dive Bar. Hope you’ll enjoy it too! And he’s coming back to Loomis, NE to perform at The Balcony again in the fall. I’m looking forward to it!

4–Mornings. I find it so much easier to get up earlier when it’s summer, and it’s light outside in the mornings. This means that there is more time to accomplish the many tasks on the to-do list, as well as just to enjoy the sunshine and the birds chirping. I really liked this post on becoming a morning person.

5–Ann Voskamp. I’ve read a couple of her books and loved them. I read her blog regularly and enjoy it as well. Periodically she just has posts that speak to me, heart-to-heart. This post did. I hope that you enjoy it as well.

Friday Five 6-17-2016

06.17.2016 by Tana Henry //

5This is the eighth installment in my new weekly series, called the Friday Five. In this series, I’ll tell you about five random things that I love, whether they be books, travel, music, movies…or whatever. So without further ado, 6-17-2016’s Friday Five!

1–The Steel Wheels. I went to a Steel Wheels concert put on by Rehmsworld on Sunday night. They’ve played Rehmsworld before, but this was the first time that Mike and I had seen them. And holy moly, they are amazing!! You can check out a snap I took of them on Instagram, or a video of one of their songs on YouTube. So talented!

2–The Top 10 Most Dangerous Sea Creatures. I got such a kick out of this YouTube video. Some were terrifying…others a bit less so. What do you think of their ranking?

3–Breaking Bad…Habits. 😉 This post on breaking bad habits was really interesting. And it’s a short read.

4–Podbean. My friend Elisha turned me on to this app. I’ve not ever really listened to many podcasts before, but this will make it easy to listen to some while driving.

5–Bob Dylan. I get to see Bob Dylan at the Pinewood Bowl Theatre in Lincoln, Nebraska next week. So excited for it! And it looks like tickets are still available (check it out here) for anyone else who might want to go see him. Mike and I previously saw Jim Gaffigan at the Pinewood Bowl Theatre…what a great venue.

My name is Tana, and I am an attorney in South-Central Nebraska. I'm married to a great guy, named Mike, and have a dog named Emmy and a cat named Scout. I read as much as possible, and travel any chance I get. Luggage and Literature chronicles both. I hope you enjoy looking around! Please leave me a comment and tell me what you think.
