Friday Five 12-20-2019

12.20.2019 by Tana Henry //

This is the forty-third installment in my sorta weekly series, called the Friday Five. In this series, I’ll tell you about five random things that I love, whether they be books, travel, music, movies…or whatever. So without further ado, 12-20-2019’s Friday Five!

1–MedAire. Have you ever wondered what happens if you get sick on an airplane? I’ve heard pages for a doctor or nurse on previous flights, and it’s made me wonder. But wonder no more! This article explains all!

2–Disney+. I’m guessing everyone else has either heard of or has Disney+. We have it right now, and so far, I’m really loving the Christmas movies, and the National Geographic documentaries on it. Fun for all ages!

3–Tub’s Pub. This restaurant isn’t very far from where we live. And it’s apparently beautiful at Christmas time (find out more here). I think Mike and I might need to make a trip there for dinner!

4–The Good Place. I think Mike and I were maybe the last to discover this show (available on Netflix), when his brother told us about it at Thanksgiving. We started watching it when we got back, and are already into Season 3. Apparently Season 4 is the last one. What the Fork?! So funny!

5–Ice Castles. Did you know that there are real ice castles?! I recently found out that there is a company that creates them in different places, and there will be one in Colorado. I’ve been stalking the page waiting for the announcement that it’s done. It sounds totally beautiful and fun, and I’m willing to drive to see one!

Friday Five 7-21-2017

07.21.2017 by Tana Henry //

This is the twenty-ninth installment in my weekly series, called the Friday Five. In this series, I’ll tell you about five random things that I love, whether they be books, travel, music, movies…or whatever. So without further ado, 7-21-2017’s Friday Five!

1–Traeger grills. I bought one for my husband’s 39th birthday, and we’ve used it a few times already. They are expensive, but are worth it as they make delicious food!

2–Self-playing piano/violins. The Hupfeld Phonoliszt-Violin is amazing and there are only 69 left in the world. If you, like me are a fan of player pianos, this takes them to a whole other level. Thanks to Atlas Obscura for sharing this.

3–Scuba diving in Silfra. I am dying to go to Iceland. And watching this video of scuba diving (although the divers don’t look to be very experienced) in Silfra makes me want to go even more.

4–Summer road trips. I’ve really been enjoying Crystal Paine’s series on Money Saving Mom about her family’s east coast summer road trip. If you want to follow along, you can check out Day 1 here. Then there are links to each of the subsequent days.

5–Chasing Coral on Netflix. I stumbled across this, and was totally absorbed in it. As a scuba diver, I’m well aware of how fragile, but how important our coral reefs are. And I’ve also seen the news coverage of the bleaching of reefs, in particular the Great Barrier Reef in the Pacific Ocean, where 27% of the reef has now died. It’s incredibly sad, but also really, really bad for the ecosystem. Coral bleaching is caused by warming ocean temperatures (even just a 2 degree increase can cause it, but some of the temperatures at the Great Barrier Reef were up to 97 degrees). But my problem with the documentary is that they jump to the conclusion is that the only explanation for an ocean temperature increase is man-made pollution without any rationale for why that is the case. And the only solution that they have to the problem of increasing ocean temperatures is clean energy, which is at best a long-term solution, without even trying to identify any short-term options for reducing ocean temperatures.

Friday Five 2-3-2017

02.03.2017 by Tana Henry //

This is the twenty-third installment in my weekly series, called the Friday Five. In this series, I’ll tell you about five random things that I love, whether they be books, travel, music, movies…or whatever. So without further ado, 2-3-2017’s Friday Five!

1–Peanut Butter Rice Crispy Bars. Some call them scotcharoos. In any event, I make them…my mom makes them…everyone loves them. And they’re super simple. Just remembered this week how delicious they are!

2–Special Report. I’ve watched this show for years, and have always enjoyed it. They recently changed the format so that it’s two hours long every night. I really, really like it! It means that you get more analysis on issues from incredibly smart people like Charles Krauthammer and Brit Hume.

3–Her View from Home. A friend of mine recently told me about this website. The founder of the site is apparently from the my area of the world, so that’s pretty neat. I’m toying with the idea of submitting an article for publication on her site as well. Thoughts? Opinions?

4–The Crown. I’ve been Netflix bingeing lately since it’s been cold and icky outside. So I’ve now watched the entire first season of The Crown, which is about Queen Elizabeth. So fascinating. And according to my google sleuthing, it appears to be based in reality.

5–OA. Continuing my Netflix bingeing, I watched the entire first season of OA. It’s weird and awesome. Throughout the entire first season, I was torn between thinking it was an interesting fantasy story, and that the main character was crazy. Even at the end, I’m not sure
