Friday Five 2-17-2017

02.17.2017 by Tana Henry //

This is the twenty-fourth installment in my weekly series, called the Friday Five. In this series, I’ll tell you about five random things that I love, whether they be books, travel, music, movies…or whatever. So without further ado, 2-17-2017’s Friday Five!

1–Gilmore Girls Revival. I was home sick two days in a row this month, and just watched a whole bunch of Gilmore Girls on Netflix. I finished Season 7 of the old series, and then watched the entirety of the revival series. I’ve found myself talking with other people about it a few times since then. And although it’s a little different from the old show, I still adored it.

2–Pink Floyd. I’ve been listening to the Pink Floyd station and albums on Amazon Music lately (You can even Try Amazon Music Unlimited 30-Day Free Trial). Although I’ve heard many of their songs on the radio, this was probably the first time that I’d listened to a significant amount of their music, or whole albums. Their music is weird and wonderful.

3–Shipwrecks. Mike likes to dive shipwrecks, any shipwrecks no matter the water temperature. I like the ones that are in shallow, warm water; and even then I’m perfectly content to stay outside of them. But this week I stumbled across two different posts on shipwrecks and shipwreck diving.  The first is from TDI/SDI and deals with the rules of shipwrecks. The second is from Atlas Obscura is about a Swedish shipwreck recently discovered.

4–Firehouse Subs. A new restaurant, Firehouse Subs opened in Kearney. Mike and I went for dinner last Friday night before our movie (Lego Batman, which is really funny by the way). It was a soft opening to help train the new staff, so we ended up getting out dinners for free. The food was really good, so we’ll definitely go back. But how cool is free food?!

5–Jonathan Bird’s Blue World. Mike turned me on to this YouTube channel, and I love it. This guy dives in some really cool destinations; and they catch some really great video. Whether you’re a diver or not, it’s gorgeous video.

Friday Five 2-3-2017

02.03.2017 by Tana Henry //

This is the twenty-third installment in my weekly series, called the Friday Five. In this series, I’ll tell you about five random things that I love, whether they be books, travel, music, movies…or whatever. So without further ado, 2-3-2017’s Friday Five!

1–Peanut Butter Rice Crispy Bars. Some call them scotcharoos. In any event, I make them…my mom makes them…everyone loves them. And they’re super simple. Just remembered this week how delicious they are!

2–Special Report. I’ve watched this show for years, and have always enjoyed it. They recently changed the format so that it’s two hours long every night. I really, really like it! It means that you get more analysis on issues from incredibly smart people like Charles Krauthammer and Brit Hume.

3–Her View from Home. A friend of mine recently told me about this website. The founder of the site is apparently from the my area of the world, so that’s pretty neat. I’m toying with the idea of submitting an article for publication on her site as well. Thoughts? Opinions?

4–The Crown. I’ve been Netflix bingeing lately since it’s been cold and icky outside. So I’ve now watched the entire first season of The Crown, which is about Queen Elizabeth. So fascinating. And according to my google sleuthing, it appears to be based in reality.

5–OA. Continuing my Netflix bingeing, I watched the entire first season of OA. It’s weird and awesome. Throughout the entire first season, I was torn between thinking it was an interesting fantasy story, and that the main character was crazy. Even at the end, I’m not sure

Friday Five 1-27-2017

01.27.2017 by Tana Henry //

This is the twenty-second installment in my weekly series, called the Friday Five. In this series, I’ll tell you about five random things that I love, whether they be books, travel, music, movies…or whatever. So without further ado, 1-27-2017’s Friday Five!

1–Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. The trailers for this movie did not do it justice. They made it look like a typical Tina Fey comedy, and while parts of it were funny, it was truly a drama. And a very good one at that. It’s on Amazon Video, free with Prime, so it’s a great opportunity to check it out.

2–What Should I Read Next. Modern Mrs. Darcy does a weekly podcast that I absolutely adore! I have it downloaded automatically in my podcast app (Podbean), so that I can listen to it in the car while driving.  I’ve gotten so, so many excellent book recommendations. And I just love hearing Anne and the guests talk about why they love (or hate!) particular books. I applied to be on the show…so hopefully I’ll get selected!

3–Award Wallet. I started using this to keep track of how many points or miles we have in each of our travel rewards program. I have the app on my phone and it is super simple to use. The only downside is that Delta and United won’t allow participation, so those aren’t included. But it still works great for all of the other programs that I have.

4–Visual History of Rasputin. It’s super interesting in case you want to learn a bit about history.

5–13 Hours. Another great movie on Amazon Video (also free with Prime). This one is about Benghazi, and is an incredibly intense film.
